Az étrendi változás valós és mérhető. Ez az a terület, ahol a kategórián belüli eltérés gyakran meghaladja a kategóriák közötti különbséget, amiről az emberek tájékoztatva vannak.
Mi a megbízható
Egy megállapítás minden módszertani érvet túlél: a marha- és bárányhús egységnyi fehérjére vetített kibocsátása messze meghaladja a többi termékét, főként a bélgázok és a földhasználat miatt. A tej következik. Minden más jóval lemarad.
A környezetvédelmi szempontból védő étrendek áttekintése [4] és az egészség és fenntarthatóság szempontjából közösen értékelt étrendi minták [1] megerősítik, hogy a kérődző termékek csökkentése az egyetlen legnagyobb étrendi tényező, és általában összhangban van az egészségügyi ajánlásokkal, nem pedig ellentmond nekik.

Ahol zűrzavar keletkezik
A kérődző szint alatt az egyszerű rangsorok megszakadnak. A konkrét termékek életciklus-értékelése azt találja, hogy a kategórián belüli eltérés gyakran meghaladja a kategóriák közötti eltérést — a legmagasabb hatású alacsony hatású élelmiszer legmagasabb kibocsátású termelői meghaladhatják a legkisebb hatású termelőket egy magasabb hatású termék esetében.
- A szállítás általában kicsi. Az élelmiszer-mérföldek a legtöbb termék esetében másodlagos tényezők; a termelési módszer dominál. A légi úton szállított termékek a kivételek, és ritkán vannak megjelölve.
- A helyi nem automatikusan alacsonyabb. A közeli fűtött üvegházi termelés meghaladhatja a távoli mezőgazdasági termelést plusz a szállítást.
- A csomagolás általában kicsi az élelmiszerhez képest, és csökkentheti a teljes hatást a hulladék megelőzésével.
- A hulladék nagy. A kidobott élelmiszer teljes termelési lábnyomát magával hozza, és semmit sem ad.
- A szezonális és nem fűtött jobb, mint a helyi. A hasznos heurisztika nem a távolság, hanem a termesztési módszer.
Szén-dioxid címkézés
A szén-dioxid címkézést az élelmiszereken tanulmányozták, és az eredmények visszhangozzák a táplálkozási címkézés irodalmát, amelyet a food label evidence site oldalunkon tárgyaltunk: a címkék mérsékelten megváltoztatják a viselkedést, a megértés egyenetlen, és a gyártókra gyakorolt reformulációs hatás talán fontosabb, mint a fogyasztói hatás.
A további nehézség itt az, hogy a szén-dioxid szám sokkal kevésbé standardizált, mint a táplálkozási szám. Két gyártó nagyon eltérő számokat számolhat ki ugyanarra a termékre védhető módszerekkel, ami a termékek közötti összehasonlítást ingataggá teszi, mint amit a címke sugall.

Az alkalmazás-alapú étrendi beavatkozások meta-analízise [3] és a tudatosság és fenntartható étrendekkel kapcsolatos munka [2] a szokásos kis hatásokat találja. A strukturális tényezők — hogy mi van a menüben, mi van szemmagasságban, mi a default opció — megbízhatóbban befolyásolják a fogyasztást, mint az információ.
