What the evidence actually shows

Studies of public perception repeatedly find recycling rated among the most effective personal climate actions, while footprint accounting places it well below energy, transport and food choices. [1]

This claim is far more confident in public than in the literature. It is repeated because it is intuitive and commercially useful, not because the trials support it at that strength.
